Causes of Diabetes in El Centro

Diabetes is when your body fails to produce a hormone called insulin that controls blood glucose levels or fails to utilize that hormone. As a result, blood glucose rises and may cause a long-term impact on the nervous system, circulatory system, and immune system. In this blog, we will discuss the causes of El Centro diabetes.

Causes

To understand the causes, you need to understand the normal physiology of blood glucose utilization.

Normal physiology

The pancreas is the name of the body organ that releases insulin and is present below and behind the stomach. The insulin helps the cells to take up glucose present in the bloodstream; as a result, the blood glucose levels decrease. Lower blood glucose level also reduces the secretion of insulin.

Causes of type 1 diabetes

Though the exact cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown, scientists believe that the immune system cells that destroy pathogens such as viruses and bacteria kill the cells of the pancreas. As a result, the pancreas secretes little or no insulin, and the glucose starts building in your blood.

Environmental factors and genetic susceptibility are assumed to contribute to type 1 diabetes, but obesity is not related to the cause.

Causes of type 2 diabetes

What causes diabetes? | The major root cause of diabetes

The following factors are responsible for type 2 diabetes-

Obesity and physical inactivity

If you are overweight and have belly fat, you are more prone to diabetes as obesity causes insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance

Insulin resistance is a condition in which the liver, fat, and muscle fail to uptake insulin well. Initially, the pancreas tries to compensate for that with more insulin, but later on, the pancreas fails to meet the demand. Hence the blood glucose in the bloodstream rises.

Genetics and family history

Genes, family history, and environmental factors also play a role in type 2 diabetes. If your parents have diabetes, you and your sibling may be affected with diabetes type 2.

Causes of Gestational diabetes

During pregnancy, the placenta produces certain hormones that cause insulin resistance; as a result, blood glucose level rises. Women who are obese or gain excessive weight during pregnancy are more prone to gestational diabetes.

Conclusion

Diabetes is a disease that can have chronic complications. Once you develop diabetes, the doctor advises medications that continue throughout your life, thus affecting your lifestyle. So it is better to prevent the disease by adopting a healthy food and exercise regimen.
